National Cook For Your Pets Day... It’s actually a thing!

National Cook For Your Pets Day is celebrated annually on November 1st and is popular with pet owners throughout the US. It is said to have been created by cookforyourpets.com (site no longer active) to encourage healthier eating for pets. Although it's not widely recognised in Australia, there are many pet owners that do cook for their beloved pets throughout the country.

Cooking for your pets can be cost effective, help control nutrition levels, and can be fun. There are plenty of recipes all over the internet, however, do your research and check with your vet first before committing to any major dietary changes. Simple foods that we find enjoyable could have the reverse effect on your pet.

I wanted to share my parent's recipe that’s really popular with their three dogs during hot days. Simply mix up some dog treats in water and set into ice block moulds, then freeze. The dogs love the taste, and it helps them to cool down while keeping them occupied for a while.
